escape artist
Snuggles’ Diary
November 19 – I came home with Mom and neighbor Sally. Mom showed me my new house, but I was scared. Then she started talking to me in this squeaky voice and calling me “snuggles” (what a dumb name). I would like to have a cool name like – Blaze, or Buster, or Bingo!
Another name for me could be: The Great Escape Artist! You see, I’m really good at getting out of the crate, out of the gate, and out of the house! My most famous escape was on Thanksgiving when Mom was driving me to Aunt Sue’s house. When Mom stopped at the turnpike entrance gate, I popped up out of the crate! Then I crawled out of the crate and up onto Mom’s shoulders while she was driving on Route 83 through York. I think it made her really nervous because lots of cars were going really fast! She made me get down when she saw a white car with flashing red lights on top…
Another day, Mom was going to a place she calls “work”. But I think she really has fun there, because she stays there a long time every day. Anyway, she didn’t put the gate up very well, and I got out and spent my day sleeping on my favorite spot on the living room carpet. I was a good boy and did not mess up anything! She looked surprised when I greeted her at the front door…
Dec. 17 – Mom put up this really big green thing in the living room. It has lights all over it, and she’s putting balls on it. Why can’t I play with those balls? I really had a fit and started barking at this big round spool on the rug. When she pulled a long gold ribbon from the spool to put it on the big green thing, the spool moved, and made a funny noise! I barked and barked at it, but it wouldn’t go away!
Mom put this red velvety round rug under the green thing. I like laying on there, and I even pulled it around the room. I wonder why Mom took it away now?
Dec. 19 - I really like my new house, and I love my Mom. She loves me, too, but sometimes she gets a little cranky when I lick her face and the clock says “2:33AM”. Sorry Mom, but I had to go! She always gives me a treat when I “go” at the right spot. She says “no” when I make a mistake. I’m still learning – she has a lot of patience.
Dec. 20 - I can’t wait to meet my new brother, Jared. I heard he’s coming home from Atlanta for Christmas. I want to show him all of my tricks, like chasing toys and chewing slippers. I also want to show him how I can run like crazy in the snow! I’m going to wake him up early in the morning so we can play all day!
I have to go now – Mom is making something that smells really yummy! If I beg and make sad eyes, maybe she’ll give me some to eat!

huggy and snuggly
Snuggles has been much more snuggly lately. Don't get me wrong - he's still a bundle of energy, but it seems like he calms down when he is hugged, petted, kissed and snuggled. He eats up the attention! Let's see...what did he chew this week? the remote control to the air conditioner, the button from the top of his baseball hat, the arm of a chair, a spoon that he jumped up and pulled off the table, and his bottle toy.
He loves wearing his baseball cap. He holds his head high, and says "look at me!"

first day of spring?
I thought the first day of spring was supposed to be beautiful, warm, sunny quiet day. Well, not with a male puppy in the house! For whatever reason, SPRING FEVER HAS HIT SNUGGLES! This dog is wild today! Constantly whining and crying to go out! Wants to run and run and run! I gave him a bath at noon time, thinking that would calm him down a little. He continued to drive me nuts, so I put him in the crate and went to the grocery store and to do errands.
Three hours later, I came home, and he had p---- in the crate! All over himself, and his clean little body! So back in for another bath, and I put him right outside to shake it off! He went straight for the dirt and grass - digging and rolling til he was mud city!
Third bath - and I held him in a towel until he stopped shaking. He looked so cute! I let him down - no more going outside tonight unless it's to p--. He's now ripping around the house with his hedgehog toy!

snuggles response
Mom came home with 2 friends on Saturday night. Her face was big and puffy! Her friends made her sit down and eat soup and drink tea. Of course, I had to entertain her friends and crawl up on them! Greg liked me OK - but Kathy didn't want me to crawl up and kiss her. She's nice, but just doesn't like puppy kisses!
Greg played lots of games with me - he likes to trick me by pretending to throw the bone! But I soon caught on to his tricks! I waited til he actually THREW the bone before I ran to get it!
Mom looks funny now with a purple eye. I tried to make it better, but it's not working. So I'll be a good puppy and not trick her too much.
Love you, mom. Snugs

black eye
I fell at a church on Saturday and hit my cheek on a stair step! Snuggles has been a most comforting companion as I recuperate. He curls up on my legs as I sit on my chair. Also, he licks my face as if to say - "I'll make it better". He senses that I need him to be good and well behaved right now. He was so happy to be able to sleep all day outside the crate! He laid on his back with his legs stretched in the air and just slept!
He's a great companion lap dog on a rainy weekend!

blue ball - Snuggles' reply
Well, this blue ball is fun to chew, chew, chew - it just crumbles in my mouth! Yum! I'll eat more and more...
Now here comes Mom! Why is she freaking out? She picked up my blue snack and threw it away! Whatever...
She keeps telling me to "go poo" - whatever that means... and why is she looking at it? Why would you want to look at that? It smells weird...
I got sick from my snack and left most of it on the porch. But it still seems yummy to me - I just want to sniff it and lick it! Mom keeps pulling me away...Why?
Goodbye to my blue ball...

In the top, Out the bottom!
So Snuggles had a blue plastic ball that we bought when he first came here to live. He loved his little blue puppy ball - he would push it with his nose and chase it around the house.
Well, I made the mistake of allowing him to have it one day while I was away at work. He was penned in the kitchen with a few toys.
Well, when I got home all that I saw was HALF of the blue ball! Where was the other half? Uh Oh...
We did our regular walk after school, and then I allowed him to hang out on the back porch while I did some surveillance work.
He vomited most of the blue ball pieces on the back porch! Thank goodness - it's mostly all out!
The next day, I watched for the tell tale signs of blue ball and - sure enough, all is out the bottom!
Thank goodness it was just small pieces and it could pass without causing undue gastric distress! No more hollow plastic balls! - solid rubber only!

snuggles' rebuttal
Wow. Whats that great smell? Yummy and smelly...I love it! I'll dig and dig til I find it! Wow! It's great! It fits perfectly in my mouth! I can run and run around while I carry this smelly good thing...It makes me feel good and crazy to run!
Now, why is Mom yelling at me? why is she taking away my new toy? boy, she's no fun...she always takes away my really good stuff!
Where is it? where is my smelly toy? I sniff and sniff, but I can't find it!
Mom, you're so boring! You always make me go inside when it's fun, fun, fun!

strange toy!
So...while we were outside walking, Snuggles dug up a dead carcass of a bird, squirrel, or chipmunk! I'm not sure what it was ---I just saw the little claws on a piece of brown ugliness! I tried to get him to drop it - and then I took it away from him! He found it again and ran off with it - chasing around and around the yard! Disgusting!
I made him drop it again, and took him inside.
The next night, he found it again!!! He loves it! He picked it up and ran around in circles with this disgusting thing in his mouth - he is never kissing me again! Yuck.

my story
what does it mean? bad dog...I don't get it. she leaves me all alone in that cramped up plastic crate all day long...then a quick walk outside, and she pens me behind two gates! no toys, no bones, what's a pup to do?
But OH! that wonderful sound of paper ripping...it's heavenly. I love love love ripping paper...gimme some papers!
I could just rip rip rip paper all day long!
I put lots of pieces all over the floor - it looked kinda pretty and some were shiny and colored with pictures of yummy cookies and food. Now why is she trying to pick it up? All my hard work swept up - I love love love the sound of that broom sweeper! I want to growl at it and bite it!
Then she calls me 'bad dog' = I was just trying to decorate this boring kitchen floor!
